Round 2--Plot
what is going on in these films? Here i'll just look at what it is these movies are all about.
INCEPTION--Don't worry this is going to be a spoiler free as possible. When you really look at what this film is about it's two things, a heist film and a redemption story. That's all i'm gonna say about that, but what a great story. Going into this film i wasn't really sure what to expect, and that really was the best way to experience it. There's a strong narrative and it never lets up, its intense the whole way through.
SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE UNIVERSE--This is a fairly simple love story. Boy meets girl, boy dates girl...boy has to fight seven evil exes to continue dating girl. It really is a nice twist on the typical romance story, and just like the opening of the film, it is all done in a frantic and exciting pace. At times it might feel like it moves a little too fast, but in the end it works very well with the way the film works.
TOY STORY 3-- Possibly one of the saddest films in awhile. The plot of Toy Story 3 is a very sentimental one, with lots of moments of nostalgia thrown in. It's done very well though, and never feels like Pixar is just out to make everyone depressed. It is probably the most grounded of the plots, odd since it's a animated film, but it was a very well crafted story.WINNER--INCEPTION
What a great plot, truly one of the best stories of any film this year. Scott Pilgrim was a little too simplistic and Toy Story didn't really throw any really heavy ideas at you. Inception sought out to take its wild plot and just envelope the audience in their world, and it is a very effective effort. There are entire scenes in that film where you are 100% dedicated to watching characters interact on the screen. Christopher Nolan has once again crafted a world that is fantastical but at the same time very believeable.
